Wilsden Library

Wilsden Library back in business

Wilsden Community Library was official opened by Baroness Margaret Eaton on 3 April followed by a celebration buffet in the Village Hall. Library volunteers, members of the Parish Council and the Village Hall Management Committee together with other guests and children from the Village Hall Nursery all enjoyed themselves at what was a very special village occasion. Over 120 adults visited the library during the day setting a new attendance record.

Wilsden has had its own library since 1888, when one was opened in the Mechanics Institute on Main Street. From 1976 the library has been a part of the Village Hall providing an important contribution to village life. For several months we have had weekly visits from the mobile library but now we are back in business in our permanent home.

Today Wilsden Library provides a full Bradford Libraries service from the Village Hall. We have nearly 5, 000  books on our shelves with users able to request books from any of Bradford libraries online and have them delivered to Wilsden for collection the following week. Computers are available to browse the internet and use Bradford Libraries excellent on-line reference resources and extensive book catalogue.  We have a large Children’s section and play area and are keen to encourage young readers by making them feel welcome and providing a range of exciting activities. We hope mums and dads will bring their children into the library on the way home from school and borrow books for themselves and their children.

As the library develops we will be adding other services both in the library and we hope in the wider community with a range of craft, computer and outreach activities, including special events for children in the school holidays.

Please make use of the library – the more villagers young and old who use the library the better the range of services and choice of books we can offer. The library is open all day on Tuesdays from 9:00 am till 7:00 pm in the Village Hall and we look forward to providing friendly, helpful and modern library services to everyone in the village. To telephone the library call  0753 0714 926 or email library.wvh@talktalkbusiness.net.
